Prevail

At Prevail, we believe that strong families and community connectivity are crucial to the well-being of our children.  By coming together as a community, we can help all of our kids make the most of their childhoods and grow into successful, contributing adults.

The Search Institute’s Developmental Assets are a set of characteristics, skills, experiences, and behaviors that have been shown to be most essential to healthy development.  As children develop more assets, their self-esteem and chances of success increase, while their likelihood to engage in risk-taking behaviors decreases.  Anyone can be an asset builder.  Parents, siblings, relatives, teachers, coaches, friends, and neighbors all have the potential to significantly influence a child’s development.  From simple acts like smiling and waving to big investments like helping a child explore new career interests, we can all support kids in our community.

In order to build safe, stable and nurturing relationships and environments  in our community, Prevail is sharing the Developmental Assets framework across Hamilton County.  By engaging parents, young people, educators, businesses, and community organizations in Asset building, we can build protective factors in our community to ensure the well-being of all of our residents.

We hope to make the Assets accessible to everyone through strengths-based trainings, user friendly tools, and engaging community activities.

One tool that we’ve created is Prevail’s Developmental Assets calendar. The calendar provides daily activities and discussion prompts anyone can use with the young people in their life.  All 40 Assets are represented through a variety of activities designed for kids of all ages.  Activities can be altered to suit different developmental stages or family structures.  Each month features information about a unique aspect of our community—from parks to libraries to festivals—designed to encourage exploration of our local resources and to build community connectedness while having fun as a family.
